In celebration of the\u00a02025 International Year of Cooperatives<\/strong>, EURICSE,<\/strong>\u00a0in collaboration\u00a0with the\u00a0International Cooperative Alliance Global Committee on Cooperative Research (ICA CCR)<\/strong><\/span>, EMES International Research Network, CIRIEC International,<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0University of Trento <\/strong>and with the support of the\u00a0Trentino Federation of Cooperatives <\/strong><\/span>is organizing a\u00a0Thematic Research Colloquium on Cooperatives.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

This colloquium complements a series of conferences already scheduled for the International Year of Cooperatives, including events organized by CIRIEC, EMES, the European Commission, ICA, and other key organizations. The event aims to shine a spotlight on the positive impact of cooperatives and the broader social and solidarity economy while fostering academic exchange and advancing cooperative enterprise knowledge during this global celebration.<\/p>\n

Colloquium Rationale<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The primary goal of the\u00a0International Research Colloquium on Cooperatives<\/strong>\u00a0is to stimulate the co-design of shared research agendas by scholars and their networks. These networks are already engaged in investigating the roles, impact, limitations, and potential of cooperatives, drawing from various disciplines such as economics, law, sociology, management, political science, history, geography, and others.<\/p>\n

The colloquium will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss and collaborate on cooperative research, focusing on diverse geographic regions, including Europe, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and Africa.<\/p>\n

Key Objectives\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Drawing on the research findings achieved so far, participants will:<\/p>\n

  • Reflect<\/strong>\u00a0on the capacity and limitations of cooperatives in addressing pressing global challenges.<\/li>\n
  • Critically discuss<\/strong>\u00a0new research avenues to explore in the coming years, both for individual scholars and the wider cooperative research community.<\/li>\n
  • Explore<\/strong>\u00a0the differences and similarities across the participating networks, focusing on:\n
      \n
    • Research topics and areas of focus<\/li>\n
    • Methodologies, theories, and funding mechanisms<\/li>\n
    • Organizational structures and institutional support<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n

      \u00a0Participation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

      Each co-organizing institution depends on its members to represent and actively participate. Ten EMES members including EURICSE who have expressed interest will represent our network at this important colloquium.<\/p>\n

      The Colloquium will be held in Trento, Italy, on 30th and 31st May 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n
