Now in its thirteenth edition, this year\u2019s report holds special significance as it coincides with the <strong>United Nations International Year of Cooperatives<\/strong>, providing an in-depth look at how cooperatives are helping to reshape the global economy towards more sustainable, equitable, and resilient models.<\/p>\n<p>The analysis of the <strong>300 largest cooperatives and mutuals worldwide<\/strong> highlights significant growth in the sector, with a <strong>total turnover of USD 2.789 trillion<\/strong>, up from the previous edition. The most represented sectors in the ranking are <strong>agriculture, insurance, and wholesale\/retail trade<\/strong>, which together generate more than 80% of total value. Leading organizations include <strong>Cr\u00e9dit Agricole (France)<\/strong>, <strong>State Farm (USA)<\/strong>, and <strong>REWE Group (Germany)<\/strong>, while cooperatives in emerging economies\u2014particularly in <strong>India<\/strong>\u2014stand out for their high turnover-to-GDP ratio, reflecting their strong role in fostering local development and economic inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>Produced in collaboration with <strong>ICETT<\/strong>, <strong>CM50<\/strong>, and <strong>Co-op News<\/strong>, the 2025 Monitor combines economic data with a rich collection of <strong>impact stories<\/strong> and <strong>interviews<\/strong> with cooperative leaders from around the world. These narratives show how cooperatives are offering concrete solutions to global challenges such as food security, climate change, access to healthcare and education, digital transformation, and financial inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>As <strong>Gianluca Salvatori<\/strong>, General Secretary of EURICSE notes: \u201cthe cooperative model continues to stand out as a people-centred approach to economic development, one that combines social purpose with measurable results. In a time of ecological and digital transition, cooperatives demonstrate that it is possible to innovate without losing sight of fairness, inclusion, and democratic governance. This makes their contribution not only socially relevant, but strategically essential for a sustainable economy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>At the national level, the Monitor confirms <strong>Italy\u2019s prominent position<\/strong>, with <strong>seven organizations<\/strong> featured in the global Top 300. Among them are <strong>Conad<\/strong> and <strong>Coop Italia<\/strong> in retail, <strong>SACMI Imola<\/strong> in industry, <strong>Gruppo Unipol<\/strong> in insurance, and <strong>Manutencoop<\/strong>, <strong>Coopservice<\/strong>, <strong>F.A.I. Service<\/strong>, and <strong>CIR Food<\/strong> in services, all ranking among the world\u2019s top ten in their respective sectors.
