The World Cooperative Monitor 2025, produced by the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) in collaboration with Euricse, provides the most up-to-date and comprehensive overview of the global cooperative movement. It analyzes the 300 largest cooperatives and mutuals in the world, highlighting their contribution to building sustainable, inclusive, and resilient economies.<\/p>\n
Now in its thirteenth edition, this year\u2019s report holds special significance as it coincides with the International Year of Cooperatives proclaimed by the United Nations, offering an in-depth picture of how cooperatives contribute to transforming the global economy toward more sustainable, fair, and resilient models.<\/p>\n
The analysis of the world\u2019s 300 largest cooperatives and mutuals shows significant growth in the sector, with a total turnover of USD 2.789 trillion, an increase compared to the previous edition. The most represented sectors are agriculture, insurance, and trade, which together generate over 80% of the total value. Among the leading organizations are Cr\u00e9dit Agricole (France), State Farm (USA), and REWE Group (Germany), while cooperatives from emerging countries, particularly India, stand out for their high ratio of turnover to GDP per capita, demonstrating their ability to promote local development and economic inclusion.<\/p>\n
Developed in collaboration with ICETT, CM50, and Co-op News, the 2025 Monitor complements the economic data with a rich collection of impact stories and interviews with cooperative leaders from around the world. These testimonies show how the cooperative model offers concrete solutions to global challenges such as food security, climate change, access to healthcare and education, digitalization, and financial inclusion.<\/p>\n
At the national level, the World Cooperative Monitor confirms Italy\u2019s leading role, with seven organizations appearing in the global Top 300. Among them are Conad and Coop Italia in retail, SACMI Imola in industry, Gruppo Unipol in insurance, and Manutencoop, Coopservice, F.A.I. Service, and CIR Food in services \u2014 all ranked among the top ten worldwide in their respective sectors. This broad and diversified presence reflects the strength, innovation capacity, and social relevance of the Italian cooperative movement.<\/p>\n
