1st ESIRA Policy Event: BREAKING THE CYCLE OF RURAL DECLINE

24 April 2025

On the 29th of April, the first ESIRA (Enhancing Social Innovation in Rural Areas) Policy Event will be held online. It will be an opportunity to explore the role of the social economy as a strategic lever for the inclusive and sustainable development of rural areas.

Rural communities across Europe are facing deep, systemic challenges: youth outmigration, declining services, and ageing populations. But what if the social economy could help reverse this trend?

A highlight of the event: Giulia Galera, senior researcher at Euricse, will present “Reimagining Rural Areas: The Contribution of the Social Economy.” Her talk will delve into the transformative potential of the social economy in rural contexts, outlining key trends and major challenges to be addressed — from employment and service provision to resource allocation and social cohesion.

In addition, the event will present insights from the Horizon Europe ESIRA project and host a policy debate with EU experts to discuss how to build more inclusiveresilient, and sustainable rural communities.

The ESIRA project, funded by the European Commission through the Horizon Europe programme, has EURICSE as one of the consortium partners.
