Trento at the center of the debate on the future of cooperative research

6 June 2025

On the 30th and the 31st of May, on the occasion of the International Year of Cooperatives, Trento hosts the International Colloquium on Cooperative Research, organised by EURICSE in collaboration with the International Cooperative Alliance – Global Committee on Cooperative Research, the EMES network, CIRIEC International, the University of Trento and with the support of the Trentino Federation of Cooperatives. More than 50 scholars from 18 countries will gather to discuss the future of cooperation in the social economy.
The discussion centers around four main themes: the evolution of cooperatives and emerging new forms, their role in the ecological and democratic transition, the dynamics of work and participation, and the connection between academic research and cooperative practice.
One of the most significant moments was the keynote by economist Jean-Louis Laville (CNAM Paris – EMES), who provided fresh insights into emerging practices and research questions, reinforcing the view of cooperatives as a driving force for social innovation and systemic change.
