Solidarity economy, institutions and market transformation
From Sicily to Tuscany, two cases show how work can become a tool for inclusion while also contributing to sustainability. L’Arcolaio is a Sicilian social enterprise that provides work integration opportunities for prisoners and former prisoners through the production of organic food.
Piedelibero is an innovative project by the social enterprise Arca, active in Tuscany. It recovers abandoned bicycles while creating opportunities for job placement and training for prisoners and people experiencing addiction and mental health difficulties.
The two experiences, investigated by our researchers Giulia Galera and Giulia Tallarini as part of the European WISESHIFT project, will contribute to a comparative European analysis of all the case studies. Preliminary findings will be presented in Cork from the 6th to the 9th of October, during the project partners’ General Assembly
