Housing needs and cooperative housing models

1 August 2025

EURICSE‘s new research report, “Housing needs and cooperatives housing models: innovative pathways for the Trentino Region“, was presented at a press conference in Trento. The report was produced as part of the Research Programme Agreement between EURICSE and the Autonomous Province of Trento. The document analyses data and trends in housing needs, proposing innovative solutions inspired by Italian and European cooperative housing models, with a particular focus on the role of housing cooperatives as a tool in improving accessibility, inclusion and sustainability.
The report, which is the result of action research carried out between July 2024 and March 2025 in collaboration with the Competence Centre for Cooperative Management at the Free University of Bozen and the Housing Policy Office of the Autonomous Province of Trento, includes policy recommendations on four strategic areas: investing in public housing, improving regulation of the private rental market, adapting policies to the specificities of local communities, and promoting cooperative housing models.
We also published a working paper on this topic in the EURICSE Working Paper Series, written by Richard Lang and Michela Giovannini, from the Cooperative Management Competence Centre at the Free University of Bozen.
