Brussels provides impetus to the social economy

With 2.8 million social economy operators employing 13.6 million people, social economy is becoming increasingly important for sustainable growth and social cohesion in Europe. The European Commission has recently proposed a Council recommendation urging member states to develop comprehensive strategies to support the social economy across all sectors by adapting political and legal frameworks, promoting quality employment, revitalizing the economy, and strengthening social and territorial cohesion. The Commission will closely monitor the implementation of these strategies through cross-border initiatives and new tools, including a dedicated social economy portal providing information on EU funding, training opportunities, and more. This represents another significant step forward for the EU’s social objectives for 2030 and the European Year of Skills.
