Momentum Project, a two year path across five countries towards  the empowerment of migrant and refugee women

21 December 2023

Since its inception in January 2022, the Momentum Project has been dedicated to empowering third-country national (TCN) women, placing a special emphasis on migrants and refugees aged 18-35 in Greece, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. Funded by the European Union’s Asylum, Migration, and Integration Fund (AMIF), Momentum’s mission goes beyond breaking barriers — it is a commitment to nurturing dreams, fostering resilience, and cultivating a profound sense of belonging. This commitment comes to life by expanding access to vocational training opportunities and equipping participants with the educational and entrepreneurial skills crucial for navigating the job market successfully.

The initiative, spanning five countries and featuring an extensive network of 11 partners, has effectively engaged 133 women in comprehensive training programmes. In particular Impact Hub Network has adeptly leveraged its resources to strategically tap into the expertise and knowledge repositories within the network to provide vital support to the programme.

One of the first key steps of the project was to identify the barriers that young refugee and migrant women encounter in accessing vocational training and the labor market. We conducted in-depth research, explored collaboration among key stakeholders, and successfully published a Report on the research findings. Data were collected in the five project partner countries: Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Hungary. Euricse played a key role in developing the research methodology and evaluating the social impact of the project activities.

All the outcomes of the programme will be presented during the international final event scheduled to take place in Athens on the 11th of December. The EU Conference will bring together, public authorities, public employment service providers, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) dedicated to the social and economic integration of refugees and migrants, social economy organisations and enterprises, as well as associations of migrants and refugees from the five EU countries targeted by the Momentum project.

Throughout the event, participants will have the opportunity to hear firsthand experiences from migrant and refugee women who participated in the training organised across the five countries as part of the project. Stakeholder members of the local ecosystems will also share their insights. Moreover, attendees will be informed about the final policy recommendations of the project that will be presented at the event, stimulating a discussion to gain further valuable insights during the discussions.

The event will be followed by the last convening of the partners, centering on capitalising on the project outcomes. The primary focus will be on defining joint follow-up actions to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project results.

Momentum remains committed to championing social change and creating a more inclusive society. The project stands as a testament to the transformative power of collaboration and targeted interventions, showcasing the remarkable potential for positive change in the lives of TCN women.
