This report aims to explore the rise of community cooperatives as a global phenomenon, viewing them as the end result of a long evolutionary process. It reflects on the transformation of cooperatives from entities focused on specific social or professional groups to a form of cooperation that serves the entire community.

The aim is to analyze the institutional nature of community cooperatives in the current context and understand their development from earlier forms of cooperation.

This paper is part of the Third Euricse | 2015 report “Cooperative Economy. Relevance, evolution and new frontiers of Italian cooperation”.
