This report aims to examine the role of social cooperation in the recovery of property assets confiscated from criminal organizations, highlighting how cooperatives can contribute to the regeneration of social capital in communities affected by the presence of organized crime. The effectiveness of this approach in countering the spread of illegal behavior and promoting social cohesion through the production of goods and services of general interest is analyzed.

In particular, the economic and employment performance of social cooperatives involved in the management of confiscated property is quantified, highlighting the positive impact that these initiatives can have on the territory and local civic culture.

This paper is part of the Third Euricse Report | 2015 “Cooperative Economy. Relevance, evolution and new frontiers of Italian cooperation.
