Gianluca Salvatori, Euricse Secretary General, has been appointed member of a new expert group on "Social Economy and Social Enterprise” set up by the European Commission's Social Business Initiative (SBI). The purpose of this new group will be to discuss and agree on developing and strengthening activities related to the development of the potential of the social economy and social enterprises, aiming to promote innovation and positive impact on the economy and society at large. After the European Banking Authority, now the European Commission, represented by the Commissioner responsible for internal market and services, Michel Barnier, has also responded positively to the appeal launched by Euricse in March, demanding that EU institutions pay more attention to local and cooperative banks. Commissioner Michel Barnier replied in lieu of President Manuel Barroso to the Appeal in favour of cooperative banks that was sent last spring. The Appeal was endorsed by a large number of scholars from many countries.
