Carlo Borzaga

President Emeritus

Carlo Borzaga was the President Emeritus of Euricse and in the position of President from 2008 to 2022. He previously taught as full professor of Economic Policy, at the Department of Sociology and Social Research, University of Trento. He was among the founders of the European EMES (Emergence of Social Enterprises) network and helped found and chair Iris Network (the Italian network of research institutions dealing with social enterprises).

His main research interests have been in the labor market, economic analysis of nonprofit organizations and social enterprises, cooperatives in general and social cooperatives in particular, and the evolution of these organizational forms at the European and international levels. He has also followed issues related to welfare systems and the organization of the supply of social and health services.

From 1997 to 2008 he was President of the Institute for the Study and Development of Nonprofit Companies (ISSAN), and from 2003 to 2006 he was Dean of the Faculty of Economics. He wrote and co-edited numerous books and essays concerning the subject of labor markets, social and cooperative enterprises, and welfare systems.

Carlo Borzaga passed away after a serious illness in March 2024.
