THE ERA OF DATA COOPERATIVES BETWEEN NEW AND OLD MODELS: A FOCUS ON AGRICULTURE AND HEALTHCARE SECTORS
Digital transformation is radically changing the economy and the society, creating new opportunities but also challenges in data management. This Euricse research report analyzes the potential of data cooperatives, comparing them with traditional models and exploring their applications in the agricultural and healthcare sectors. Two areas where digitization can improve efficiency, timeliness and quality of operational activities (for example, in production processes) and services (such as territorial health care). However, open issues persist related to regulatory constraints and required resources, issues that the study highlights and will need to be addressed to foster effective digital cooperation experiences, strengthening the link between communities and institutions through the development of local digital ecosystems.
The report is structured in three chapters: the first examines the opportunities and challenges of digitization in agriculture and healthcare sectors; the second delves into data governance, with a focus on the cooperative model and new European regulations; and the third presents the results of the case studies analysed. In the conclusions, the researchers highlight the potential of data cooperatives and stress the importance of policies aimed at promoting inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystems.
The contribution of Euricse researchers to this volume is part of the research activities promoted by the Program Agreement between the Autonomous Province of Trento and Euricse.
